If moral reasoning is based on theoretical reason, and is hence analogous to discovering empirical or scientific truths about the world, a purely emotionless being could arrive at the truths of reason. RATIONALISM IN ETHICS (PRACTICAL-REASON APPROACHES) Practical-reasoning theory is a kind of metaethical view — alongside noncognitivism and other cognitivisms such as naturalism and rational intuitionism — that aims to understand ethics as rooted in practical reason. The dispute between rationalism and empiricism concerns the extent to which we are dependent upon sense experience in our effort to gain knowledge.
